My Design Principals.
Tiaki Taiao
To protect and regenerate our ecologies.
This principle guides my approach to design as an act of care not only for people, but for the ecosystems, species, and natural processes within a place. It centres design strategies that support environmental regeneration, where built interventions coexist with and enhance local ecologies.
Regenerative Design
Moving beyond sustainability toward reciprocity.
While sustainability typically operates within a framework of balance focused on minimizing negative impact. Regenerative design goes further by asking how our built environments can actively restore, replenish, and enhance the health of ecosystems and communities. It moves beyond harm reduction to foster conditions where both people and nature can thrive in harmony.
Matauranga maori
Honouring mātauranga Māori through Te Tiriti-led, place-based design
My practice honours the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi by embedding mātauranga Māori into design processes and outcomes. This means recognising the authority of tangata whenua, valuing intergenerational knowledge systems, and designing in ways that uphold mana, whakapapa, and kaitiakitanga. It is a commitment to partnership, respect, and place-based responsibility.
Biophillic
Designing with nature to support wellbeing and connection.
I specialise in integrating plant life, especially indoor greenery into spatial environments as a way to restore emotional balance and enhance everyday experiences. Biophilic design is grounded in the belief that reconnecting people with nature fosters healing, improves mental wellbeing, and creates more nurturing, life-affirming spaces.
